monkeys

"Is his tail longer???"
Yeah, it's always the same ole story when males get together. Competition and fish stories about which one is biggest. This episode was observed a few months ago in the NC Zoo.

greenery under trees

I took this picture in Duke Forest. It's just some shrubs that I thought looked interesting that were growing in a clearing in the woods. I love the way that the branches drape downwards with the sparkling early morning dew sparkling on them.

big mouth

How's this for a big mouth? I discovered this huge gaping hole in a tree that leaned out over a stream. I stood on a rock in the stream to take this picture of the insides of the tree.

cactus

It's unusual vegetation for this area of the country but I took this picture here in North Carolina. There's a few houses near me that have speciment plants like this growing in their yards but none this big. This one I saw while out walking an hour southwest of here.

elephants in the distance

3 weeks ago I took this picture at a zoo. There's elephants center framed in the distance as well as a cardinal--of the bird variety, not Catholic--upper left and some fruits on a branch upper right. The elephants are normally gray, they appear red here because it was a hot day and they'd been coating themselves with red clay.

Picture taken around 2pm in the hot midday sun, ~90f
