branch

I love this picture of a branch over a river near Morrisville NC. I took it in March, 2004. The little microcosm of life existing poised over the river seems very emblemic of the human condition. LOL On a lighter note, the ferns and moss are such a lovely green.

misty sunrise

A little mist rising from the water at sunrise. This was a very cold morning. December 2003 the day before Christmas, I think. It was very quiet that morning. Not even one fishing boat to be seen.

mottled sky

This was taken at the GA border in August 2003. I was looking across the lake towards the west from near a bridge when I took the picture. I took the picture more for the sky and it's mottling than anything else.

butterfly

Early Fall, 2005. A butterfly gathering nectar. A life almost over, preparing to create the next generation. Fragile beauty to be admired for itself not simply due to its brevity.

reflections

The reflection in the lake looked more real then the actual trees.

waterfall

November 2004, late afternoon on the day after Thanksgiving in the mountains at the NC-SC border near TN. There's a lot of waterfalls in this area though this is one of the taller ones.

morning glory

more damn tires

This picture is taken from the land side point of view of this floating pier. The lakeside point of view picture I posted on January 5. I like the effect of the sun on the tires.

A snow squall dumped a couple of inches and stopped traffic.

flood plain

It was eerie paddling across what I knew should have been a forest floor. The high water only lasted a few weeks but it made for some odd photos while it lasted. This picture was taken the day after the picture in my January 15 post and only a few miles away.

mist at sunrise

This was taken last month on December 24th. I got up early before the temperatures rose above freezing so that I could capture the effect of the mist rising off of the water as the rising sun warmed up the air.

mountain lake

This picture was taken a few days after the one I posted on January 14th, "A Bridge in the Snow". The weather had warmed up enough to let some of the snow melt but as you can see, there's still plenty in the upper mountains.

This photo was taken about 10 miles from Saranac Lake in the Adirondack Mountains.

Spring flowers

It's been a few days since I had flowers on here so here's a Spring picture with flowers--azalias, in this case--by a bench in a small park. I took the picture April 23, 2005 in Raleigh NC.

underwater trees

After 2 weeks of almost solid rain the sun finally came out again. The trees in the foreground were once an island, and the bridge in the background--barely out of water--usually has 16 feet of clearance not the 6 feet that it had on that day. Picture taken April 30, 2005 approximately 15 miles from the NC/GA border.

A bridge in the snow

November 2001. I decided to go hiking in upstate NY in winter. In retrospect it was an odd decision and led to a few bruises and some very lovely pictures.

ice palace

These are pictures of the Ice Palace from the Winter Carnival of 2002. That'd have been in February. It was a small palace since that year was quite warm and the lake ice hadn't frozen deep enough to carve out blocks until just a few weeks before the festival.
