On Sunday Naomi, over at Here in the Hills, posted about the colors of drying flowers and compared it to the fading out of people as they age. Her pictures of the flowers are beautiful and her observations of the aging process are keen.

I bring this up due to the nature of this picture here. I took it on Sunday at Duke University and it was well nigh impossible to find a good bloom in the rose section without having a dead one next to it. That juxtaposition of life and death reminds me of Naomi's post.

Orange flowers

I was at Sarah Duke Gardens today with Chris and I saw these pretty orange (salmon?) flowers. I have no idea what they are--I'm sorry, I'm not a botanist!--but these look really pretty. As pretty as Chris? Not a chance but still as pretty as a picture. This picture, in fact.

Daffy Bootie

While my girlfriend stood in front of them to keep their attention, I snuck behind this pack of begonias Daffodils and snuck a picture of their collective backsides.

Sweet Begonia Daffodil bootie--it doesn't get better than that! I'm tellin' yah, they never even knew I was there.

UPDATE: Utopia commented that she didn't think these were begonias, and that would be my take on it also but one of my pics of the flowers included a sign identifying them as begonias. Maybe the sign was wrong...

UPDATE2: SRP stated, with authority, that these are Daffodils regardless of what any silly sign says. I believe her.

JC Raulston Arboretum

I took some pictures at the Arboretum this morning. It's in Raleigh NC just off of the NC State campus. In a few weeks there'll be a lot more going on there but even in late March there's plenty of flora to take pictures of.

Who needs the showers?

The old saw is that "April showers bring May flowers" however this year having a warm Winter seems to find these flowers doing just fine in early March. They're in my front yard by my sidewalk. Even my pear trees are starting to bloom and the leaves won't be far behind.

Today it almost made it to 80 f and the past 2 days were in the mid 70s but March being March we've still got some cold weather coming. Both nights this weekend it's supposed to go below freezing with daily highs in the 50s. Time to get those sweatshirts ready again!

Purple flowers for Anna

I love the contrast in color between the lush grass in front to the purple pansies in midfield and all the way back to the dark green of the junipers on the hill.

Anna commented on my not putting up a picture this past week. I've not taken any outdoor pictures in the past week or so which meant I needed to look for some old pictures. These two were taken back in April in Raleigh, NC at the WRAL television studio. The one below was taken from the same spot as the above photo but I just pulled back the zoom all the way.

It was a drizzly overcast day but that just helped the colors come out well.
